His first wife was Sylvania Fisher.

Daughter was Malinda Fisher Wheeler Dawson Sparkman.

Catherine Wheeler 1836-1879 was Jacob's second wife.

Their children:
David Grant 1864-1885
William Sherman 1867-1957 married 1. Nellie LNU 2. Susan Martha Harralson
Philip Sheridan 1869-1930
Anna R 1872- married Cobler
Twins Walter A 1876-1960 married Sarah J Richardson
Wallace W 1876-1943 married Parthena Bell

If you will notice the three eldest boys are named for 3 Union generals of the Civil War.

The story is told that Catherine died in childbirth with the twins. The new wife, Margaret Elizabeth, apparently feeling overwhelmed insisted that the older boys be farmed out to relatives as she was soon pregnant as well as caring for the twins. This was around 1885. David died shortly after they were sent back to Missouri. Many of the Fishers in Missouri had owned slaves on their large hemp plantations in a section of Pettis County which was called "Little Dixie". It was to one of these relatives that Jacob sent his sons where they were put to work in the fields. William Sherman ran away in 1888, and according to a newspaper article in the Wichita Eagle October 30, 1953 he was subsequently captured by Sioux Natives and was perhaps one of the last white hostages released after the massacre of Big Foot's band of Sioux at Wounded Knee.

Catherine Wheeler was the sister of Thomas G Wheeler, husband of Jacob's daughter by first wife Sylvania, Malinda Fisher Wheeler Dawson Sparkman.
