Ralph Logan “Stony” Lockstone Jr. was born on January 2, 1930 to Ralph Logan and Angeline (Brown) Lockstone in Weatherford, Oklahoma and passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019 in Weatherford, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 16 days.

R.L. was raised in Weatherford and as a son of a funeral director, began assisting his father when barely a teenager. He attended Weatherford High School, graduating with the Class of 1948. After high school he attended professional school at Echols College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia where he earned his certificate in embalming and funeral directing. He enlisted in the US Army in April of 1951 and served in Korea with an artillery battery where he was awarded a Bronze Star with V Device-for Valor-for participation in acts of heroism involving conflict with an armed enemy. In January of 1953 he was separated from the US Army with an Honorable Discharge at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation in Pennsylvania. Stony returned home to Weatherford to join his father in operating the funeral home and became a licensed funeral director with the Oklahoma Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers in 1953—the second of four generations.

Stony fell in love with a young woman named Elaine Tautfest and they were married on November 20, 1953 at the First Methodist Church in Weatherford, OK. Stony and Elaine together were blessed with three sons and one daughter—Shawn, Mike, Marty, and Jane and together they raised their family. By 1958, Ralph Sr. had retired from the funeral business and Stony had taken over operation of the family business. Stony was active in civic and community affairs and served on the Deer Creek Soil Conservation Board, the Weatherford Industrial Development Corp, as a past president of the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, and was a longtime Kiwanis member. Stony was joined by his son Marty in operating the funeral home in 1981. Stony was first job and mentor to several young funeral directors during his career including his own son and after 39 years as the community’s funeral director he retired in 1992 at the age of 62.

Stony enjoyed golfing and the friendships he developed on the golf course for over thirty years and loved staying active walking his dogs and traveling with his wife extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He loved spending time with his family and visiting often with his children and grandchildren. Stony was quick to make friends and tell jokes, and was known to strike up a conversation with anyone around him.

Stony is preceded in death by his parents, R.L. and Angeline Lockstone; parents-in-law, David and Bertha Tautfest; sister, Eleanor Williams; grandson, Jon Logan Lockstone; and sister-in-law Kay Tautfest.

Stony is survived by his wife of 65 years Elaine Lockstone of the home; three sons, Shawn Lockstone and wife Mary Anne of Duncan, OK, Mike Lockstone and wife Vicki of Wichita Falls, TX, Marty Lockstone and wife Cindy of Weatherford, OK; daughter, Jane Lockstone Buffham of Elk City, OK; daughter, Holly Hendershott of Warminster, PA; brother-in-law, David Tautfest of Weatherford, OK; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.
