Dean, Gilbert L. - Passed away March 20. His home was at route 1, Colbert, Wash. Husband of Mae Dean. Father of Louise, Bud and Keith Dean, all at the home. Lynn Dean, U. S. Army. Brother of Mrs. E. L. Harmon of Bakersfield, Calif., and Albert Dean. He was a farmer, a veteran of World War 1, and a member of American Legion post No. 136. Funeral Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m. from the Alwin Chapel at the Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home. N 1306 Monroe st. Internent Chattaroy cemetery."

Some information was given by Gilbert's wife, Mary Mikesell Dean: "When Gilbert was 3 or 4 his father was killed by a horse. His mother remarried and then died in childbirth. The Doctor and his wife raised Gilbert." Mary didn't know if the doctor's name was Dean, Gilbert's father's name was Dean, if Gilbert's stepfather's name was Dean, or if Gilbert was officially adopted. She said the doctor raised Gilbert's sibling also. Later, information on Gilbert's parents was given to this researcher by daughter-in-law LaRaine Allen Dean. LaRaine said Gilbert was at Fort Lewis [U.S. Army post located in Pierce County, Washington.] during World War 1, also called the "Great War"., helping build it. The first World War was from 1914-1918. Fort Lewis began as Camp Lewis in 1917.
