Silas Hughes served in the war and came home with health problems. He died from military wounds that never healed.

His wife, Margaret died of a set back of the German measles 3 mo after he died. This left their 6 daughters to be raised by relatives and those who could afford to take them in. Marriage came early for the girls, yet one daughter died of an enlarged heart. Nancy L. Hughes.
She was only 12 yrs old.

The daughters inherited the land that their father owned. Caregivers took care of the land until they were of age or married to receive the land. Sarah Elizabeth Hughes lived on the land that she inherited. Her daughter Alta B.Willson inherited the land when they died as Golda had migrated to Illinois.

Sarah married Charles Willson and both are buried in Gravel Hill without a stone marker between Alta and Golda's graves.
