He was born on February 10, 1949 in Logansport to the late Edwin Albert and Hazel Marie (Harkin) Luetzow. He was the youngest of five boys and tried very hard to be the most mischievous of the bunch.
A graduate of Logansport High School, Ben served with the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command (SAC) at Grissom Air Force Base and Offutt Air Force Base (1968-1972). He achieved his Doctorate in Education (EdD) in 1977 from Ball State University in Muncie, alongside a Master's in Arts in Education (M.A.E.) with a major in school psychology.
Most of Ben's career was spent serving the public school students in Beaufort County, South Carolina as a school psychologist and supervising school psychology for 21 years.
Ben's proudest achievement, however, was raising his two children. He passed on his curiosity for science and the world and love of sailing and traveling to both children. He loved family gatherings, sailing, golf, volleyball, fishing, photographing wildlife and his loyal bengal cat, Chase. He was fascinated by astronomy.
Ben is survived by two children and three brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Luetzow on November 29, 1991 and Edwin Luetzow on March 2, 1969; and his brother Edwin Jerry Luetzow on August 19, 2013.
A graveside service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2019 in Mount Hope Cemetery where Ben will be laid to rest beside his parents. Pastor KC Dehning of St. James Lutheran Church will officiate at the service. Full military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Air Force and the Cass County Honor Guard.
