Elma A. O’Dell

Funeral for Elma A. O’Dell, a retired engineer for Pacific Northwest Bell, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Riverview Abbey Funeral Home. She was 82.

Mrs. O’Dell died Sunday at her Southeast Portland home. A Portland native, she worked for the phone company for 52 years, retiring in 1972. She was a chief operator in Seaside in the late 1920s and early 1930s and retired as the first female engineer in her department.

She was a chaplain in the Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband, Grover T.; a daughter, Doris M. Hodge of Portland; a brother, Wendell A. Farrar of Portland; two sisters, Alva Farrar of Portland and Vera A. Reswick of Oceanside, Calif.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Oregon Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Interment will be in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum.
