Evelyn Martha Stassen, of Braham, formerly of Ogilvie, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015 at her home. She was 92 years old.

Evelyn was born on January 18, 1923 in Minneapolis, MN to Fred and Orpha (Chase) Burk. The family moved to Britton, SD in 1924 and then back to Minnesota in 1937. Evelyn graduated from Ogilvie High School in 1941. She worked in Minneapolis at Sears and Walgreen Drug for several years.

She met Edward Stassen in 1940 but he was drafted into the Army and sent to Hawaii until 1943 when he returned home. Evelyn and Ed were united in marriage on May 7, 1943 in Fairmont, MN. They lived together in Alabama and Missouri. Ed was sent to the European Theater in July of 1944 and was gone for 15 months. When he returned home, he met his first son, Dean (8 months old). Evelyn and Ed were blessed with 11 more children in the next years. The family moved to the Ogilvie area and Evelyn ran a Daycare for many years. She left the family farm after 50 years, and lived in the Ogilvie apartments for 15 years. Due to declining health, Evelyn spent her final months with her daughter Lisa in Braham.

Evelyn loved to garden and tend to her flowers and she enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. Evelyn enjoyed puzzles, games, and playing cards any chance she would get.
