Frances was born to J.C. and Nora Belle Carothers in Milan, Mo. on March 8, 1909. As a child, she lived in Northern Missouri, graduating from Pattonsburg High School. She moved with her parents to Ranger in 1926. She attended Ranger College and Hardin-Simmons University. In 1932 she married Plummer S. Lemley and they lived in Ranger and Grapeland, and spent another 25 years in northern New Mexico where he was employed as a plants manager for Southern Union Gas Company.
After retirement, they lived once again in Ranger where her husband preceded her in death in January of 1982. She moved to Lubbock in 1997 and lived there until her death.
She was a person of great faith and wisdom, a blessing to her friends and family, and a life-long active member of the Church of Christ wherever she lived.
She is survived by her only son, Steven of Westlake Village, Calif.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials can be made to Lubbock Christian University.
