Elsie Penfield Cooper was born April 12, 1906 in Port Lavaca, Texas. She was the daughter of Jessamine McFarland and Franklin Potter Penfield. In 1928 she married William Prince Cooper and had five children:

She moved to Columbus, Texas where she was a member of the First Baptist Church and associated with the Colorado County Citizen Newspaper.
Her later years were spent in Fredericksburg Virginia where she lived with one of her daughters and her family. While there, she attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
She was an active member of the DAR & Descendants of the Mayflower. She died in Virginia in 1981
