Died in his sleep Oct. 29 2002 at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Deptford NJ, one week short of his 96th birthday (Nov. 6 1906).

Alfred was predeceased by his wife Elva and son Jack.

Al was a lifelong resident of Almonesson was employed by Gloucester County in the Engineering Dept. for 28 yrs. after attending Drexel Engineering School and then retired from the NJ Turnpike after 20 yrs.
He started on the Turnpike the day it opened and became Maintenance Superintendent for the first 60 miles before retiring.

He served as a member of the Board of Education of Deptford Twp. for 17 years; 15 years as president. He was a member of the Almonesson United Methodist Church and held many positions in the Church including Secretary for 50 years. and Treasurer for 12 years. He is an Exempt Member of the Almonesson Lake Fire Co. and served as Secretary for many years.

Al's love was baseball he played on many teams over the years up until the age of 85 with the Gloucester County Old Timers.
In 1955 he was asked by the Lions Club to start a Little League in Deptford and then coached for many years. He played sandlot ball and semipro ball and was proud to have batted against Satchel Paige in 1930.
Before and after World War II, Al was a coach/player for the traveling baseball team in Almonesson. Al was a coach for many sports through the YMCA in the 1930s was an assistant coach with his son Al for Deptford Girls Softball and they won five championships together. He was a national official for high school and college basketball.
Al was inducted into the Gloucester County Sports Hall of Fame in 1982 (the second year that inductions were made).

He was the number one fire truck driver for the Cunard Family of Clowns for 25 yrs.

He loved being able to spend winters in Florida after he retired and summers in Stone Harbor for 60 years.

Services: Almonesson United Methodist Church Almonesson Ave. Deptford NJ, Saturday 10 AM. Interment Almonesson Church Cemetery, Deptford NJ.
