He grew up in Shattuck and graduated from Shattuck High School. After high school, Murvel joined the Navy and faithfully served his country from 1956 to 1962. He earned the good conduct medal in 1959.
Murvel married Sherry Borth and to this union two children were born Kristen and Greg. He worked as a civilian for the government in electronics. He traveled all over the world for this occupation and has visited most of the free countries in the world. On November 26, 1986, Murvel married Ann Shirlene Reeves in Grand Prairie, TX and he welcomed two more children to his family Kevin and Leslie.
