Mr. Cox was the treasurer for a number of subsidiaries and affiliates of the New York Central Railroad, a company with which he enjoyed a 40 year career. He was a graduate of Oberlin College, Class of 1869. He was prominent not only as a financier, but as a scientist as well. He was one of the chief promoters of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) for the New York Central Lines. For two years, he was president of the New York Academy of Sciences.
