Minister served his flock 65 years
J. Edward Alexander, a Clinton Township resident and a Church of Christ minister for 65 years, died of congestive heart failure Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1993, in Mt. Clemens General Hospital. He was 90.
Mr. Alexander, a native of Paducah, Ky., received his bachelor's degree from Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tenn.
In 1929, he began his first ministry in Kentucky.
Over the years, he served congregations in Alabama, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
Mr. Alexander moved to Michigan in 1941 and was minister of Church of Christ in Detroit 1943-51. He retired in 1979 but continued to act as a substitute minister in other congregations, his family said.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mabelle; two daughters, Marilyn V. Thornbro and Carolyn A. Elliott; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. today in A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr, Warren. Burial follows in Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Clinton Township.
