LaHarper,LaHarpe, Il August 8, 1890

Lucy Jane Bartlett was born in the State of Indiana Sept.7, 1822, moved with her parents to Illinois in 1832 settling in Adams County. Married Pardon Potter Sept. 13, 1838, moved with her husband to Hancock County, Ill. in 1850, settling in Durham township where she died in great peace, and in the full assurance of the better home beyond. Of twelve children, seven preceded the mother to the spirit world. She leaves an aged husband, five childern, twenty-six grandchildren and four great grandchildren to mourn, but not as those who have no hope. She was convertd and joined the M.E. Church in 1842, being a follower of the meek and lowly Nazarene for nearly half a century. For a great many years she was afflicted; but for past seven months she was confined to her bed; but notwithstanding her suffering, she was resigned to the will of Him who doeth all things well. Frequently she would say, I must not complain. The large congregation that met at the funeral, showed how the people respected her and sympathized with the friends. The floral deorations were feautiful. The afflictions are over, she suffer no more; for we believe she rests where there is no suffering, no pain. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; yea saith the spirti, they rest from their labor.
