Kenneth Gerald Smith


Kenneth Gerald Smith, 74, went to live with Jesus on March 22, 2017.

He retired from The Meridian Star after 30 years as a typesetter. He also retired from Deposit Guaranty Bank and was a member of Northcrest Baptist Church in Meridian.

Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors on his land and traveling with his Sunday school class. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was a role model for many.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, his soulmate and love of his life for 54 years, his three sons, Jeff Smith and his wife Brenda, Scott Smith/Charlotte, Kerry Smith/ Cabrina, and one son by choice, James/Tina. Also survived by his seven grandchildren, Kristy Stevens/Jordan, Holly Gaines/Ryan, Summer Wooldridge/Aaron, Kaleb Smith, Sean Smith, Kirsten Smith, and Tanner Smith, and six great-grandchildren, Jossilyn Stevens, Lydia Stevens, Aiden Wooldridge, Mila Wooldridge, Declan Wooldridge, and Piper Wooldridge, and two grandchildren by choice, Carson and Jordyn Smith. Also survived by a sister-in-law, Syble Smith, two brothers, Darrell Smith and his wife Elizabeth, and Tim Smith, and his sister Barbara Welzbacher and her husband Billy.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Earl Smith, Jerry Smith and Jerry May, father, Beck Smith, mother, Ruth Tucker May, grandparents Jim and Grady Smith.

Visitation was from 12-2 pm, Friday, March 24, 2017, with a memorial service following at 2 at Barham Family Funeral Home, 6300 Highway 39 N. Meridian, MS 39305, with Dr. Dan Lanier and Rev. Paul Davis officiating. Burial will be at Macedonia Baptist Church, Suqualena, Miss.

Pallbearers were James Thorne, Jimmy Johnson, Steve Murray, Jerry Marlow, Wayne Raley, Dan Ward, John Cook and Jim Harris.

Honorary pallbearers are Jordan Stevens, Ryan Gaines, Kaleb Smith, Sean Smith, Tanner Smith, Carson Smith, and Max Warren.
