Denny Doyal Rex Stevens was born the son of Verni Stevens and Eula Allman Stevens on August 28, 1941 in Kennett, Missouri and departed this life on May 24, 2019 at his home in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 77.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Hoyt Shaw on April 4, 1998 in Thayer, Missouri and they spent twenty-one wonderful years together.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Stevens, of the home, in Thayer, Missouri; five children, Tracy Stevens (Maxine) of Lakeview, Arkansas, Rex Anne Galyean (Terry Hill) of Piggott, Arkansas, Sandra Stevens of Rolla, Missouri, Denny Stevens (Rhonda) of Licking, Missouri, and their mother, Joeann Parris of Kennett, Missouri, and Michelle Buckner (Dustin) of Licking, Missouri; five step children, Gloria Lewis (Larry) of Licking, Missouri, JoAnn Robinson (Allen) of St. James, Missouri, Justin Aichele (Veronica) of Tunis, Tunisia, Heather Milloway (Gene) of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Suzanne Caverly (John) of Denver Colorado; two brothers, Novis Stevens (Carol) of Piggott, Arkansas and Porter Stevens (Karen) of Piggot, Arkansas; one sister, Margie Amberger (Harold) of Perryville, Missouri; ten grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verni and Eula Stevens; his wife, Connie Stevens; two brothers, Sigaford and Ronnie Stevens; and one sister-in-law, Sue Stevens.

Rex was a Christian and member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Thayer, Missouri. He worked for USPS, retiring as postmaster after more than forty years of dedicated service.

Rex was an excellent and creative grill cook. He loved to grill for his family and friends. He also enjoyed getting everyone together for fish fries and to spend time with one another. He was an avid outdoorsman and liked a good coon hunt.

Rex was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, grandfather and a friend to all. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Graveside services of Thayer, Missouri will be held, Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Arytown Cemetery, east of Thayer, with Pastor Pam Ekey officiating. The family will receive friends at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Wednesday, May 29th from 1:00-2:30 PM.

Burial will be in Arytown Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home in Thayer.

A Celebration of Life potluck will be served at the St. Paul United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 29th at 11:00 AM with all family and friends invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
