Tom was a twenty-two year member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1992. Tom was a member of the Board of Directors of the Williamsport Hospital, serving on the executive finance committee, the patient care committee, and most recently the long-range building committee. He has been a member of the board of Hope Enterprises, Inc. for more than 20 years. He chaired the search committee that hired the current Hope President, and he served as President of the board from 1996 to 1999.

In the early 1980s he served as cub master for his son's Cub Scout Pack.

Tom was a member of the Williamsport Country Club and played golf in the Thursday night league.

Born November 11, 1948 in Williamsport, he was the son of Benjamin H. and Mary Jane Orphan Croyle.
