Born in Banks County, Georgia on August 2, 1930 to the late William Otha and Maybell Carter Cochran. Mrs. Shirley was a homemaker and member of B.C. Grant Baptist Church. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, crocheting, knitting, and spending time with family. Aside from being an avid gardener and valued member of the community, she was also an example to family and friends. She taught us to be happy with what we have, that it doesn’t matter what others think, to always take the high road, to turn the other cheek, and that if you can’t say anything nice – don’t say anything at all. She believed that God’s plan is always the best plan. She will be missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Joann Cochran and Margaret Maney; brothers, W.O. Cochran, Theron Cochran, Wilton Cochran and Bobby Cochran.
Surviving are her husband, James A. Shirley of Cornelia; sons and daughter-in-law, J. Michael & Donna Dill Shirley of Cornelia and Jeff Shirley of Cornelia; grandchildren and spouses, Marisa & Stan Whittington, Rachelle & Ricky Woodruff; great-grandchildren, Maley Whittington, Zeke Whittington, Riya Woodruff, Ryte Woodruff, and Rennon Woodruff; brothers, Harold Cochran of Ringold, Swayne Cochran of Lula, Jewell Cochran of Ringold; sisters, Evelyn Herrin of Cornelia, Laverne Walls of Greenville, South Carolina, B.J. Bohler of Suwanee; several nieces and nephews
