THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, July 29, 2001: ’Dema L. Dawson Barnett Abney, 91 went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 26, 2001 at Paris Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Monday, July 30, in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Floyd Couch and Rev. Michael Shields, ministers at First Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Gardens with Steve Booth, Larry Booth, Clay Nichols, Ronnie Nichols, Cole Nichols and Drew Morgan serving as pallbearers. Family will receive friends from 4-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. She was born Feb. 27, 1910 to W. C. and Dovie Wheeler Dawson in America, Okla. She married Z. N. (Buddy) Barnett on Oct. 17, 1930. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1941. She married Henry Abney on Jan 5, 1945. He passed away July 24, 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Velma Booth of Clarksville, Jean Allen and husband Don of Paris, Bobbie Nichols of Woodland, and Cheryl Culpepper of Grand Prairie; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Barham of Paris; and a brother, Lonnie Dawson of Arkansas. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Josephine E. Barnett; five brothers; four sisters; and three sons-in-law, Robert Booth, Cleo Lamb and Elvis (Jerry) Nichols.
