From an old scrapbook of newspaper clippings and obituaries donated by Zoe Hazelwood of Paris, TX; Lamar County Echo, 4 Aug 1988: ‘Henry A. Abney, 78, 580-25th SW, died at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Services were held Friday, July 29, in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lorenzo Johns and the Rev. Sam Calk officiating. Burial was in Meadowbrook Cemetery. Mr. Abney was born Sept. 9, 1909, in Foreman, Ark., a son of W. A. (Jack) and Willie Myrtle Bogan Abney. He attended Foreman schools and married Dema L. Barnett on Jan. 5, 1945. The lived in the Slate Shoals community from 1947 until l953 when they moved to Paris. He was a farmer and had worked for American Box Co. for 19 years before retiring in 1969. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Cheryl Culpepper of Grand Prairie, Bobbie Nichols of Woodland, Jean Lamb of Paris and Velma Booth of Annona; 13 grandchildren; one brother, T. J. Abney of Paris; and a sister, Nancy Langley of Foreman, Ark. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Abney.∼Henry A. Abney
