He was born September 21, 1919, in Albemarle County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Viola and Harry Baber; a son, Early Eugene; two brothers, Lawson and James Baber; and a sister, Jean Hamilton.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 68 years, Lillian Truslow Baber; one daughter, Lucy Howe and her husband, Jimmy, of Batesville; two sons, Jerry Baber and his wife, Gloria, of Batesville, and William Baber and his wife, Cindy, of Herndon, Virginia; and a "special" daughter, Carmen Ralston of Crozet, Virginia.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosa Herron and Doris Gentry; and three brothers, Irvin Baber, Clyde Baber and Buford Baber and his wife, Audrey.
Early had a kind and gentle spirit with a constant twinkle in his eyes. He was very much involved in the organization and giving to those in need through the Friends Who Care Ministry.
He was retired from Acme Visible Records after 31 years of service, and served in the United States Army and Navy. He helped to build the Crozet Railroad Tunnel with Civilian Conservation Corp.
There will not be a family visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to Friends Who Care Ministry, P. O. Box 173, Batesville, VA 22924, or The Hospice of Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Road, Suite 2, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the many neighbors and friends for their support.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2007, at Wildrose Cemetery of Batesville, with the Reverend Whitney Critzer officiating.
