A native of Edgefield County, SC; son of the late Walter Whitfield Lanier (1875–1915) and Elizabeth McClendon Lanier (1880–1913); husband of Myrtle Lillian Allen Lanier (1906–1993).
President of Spartanburg Motor Company and Piedmont Motor Finance Company; owned and operated the Peachland peach farm.
Survivors also include daughters, Peggy Ruth Lanier Rinehart (1932-2017) and Ellen Elizabeth Lanier (1938–2003); sons, Sidney Oscar Lanier (1933-1967) and Walter Hugh Lanier (1935–1997); sisters, Sallie Lou Ray and Annie Sue Lanier Vines (1908–1964); and one granddaughter.
Also predeceased by a brother, Walter Daniel Lanier (1903–1956).
Funeral services were held at 4:00 pm at J.F. Floyd Mortuary by Rev. Dr. John L. Slaughter; the burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
