Alpha – Funeral services for Mrs. Susie McDowell, 78, a former Alpha resident who died Wednesday night in Phoenix, Ariz., will be held at 2 Monday afternoon at the Knox-Wallin Funeral Home in Alpha. She had resided in phoenix the past 11 years.
Burial will be in the Alpha Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow evening.
Mrs. McDowell, the former Susie Beard, was born in Greene Township, Mercer County, July 26, 1880. She attended schools in viola and was married to Don McDowell of Alpha, Feb. 6, 1901. He died in 1936.
Surviving are four sons, Wayne of Alpha, Russell of Joslin and Herbert and Quentin, both of Phoenix; two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Tiesman of Phoenix and Mrs. Merle Johnson of Alpha; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Harriet McLaughlin of Everett, Wash., and a brother, Keyon Beard of Kewanee.
She was preceded in death by a daughter.
