ELIZABETH'S OBITUARY
Elizabeth Ann Morris Agnor passed away on May 13, 2019 at her home near Scottsville, TX. She was born November 28, 1928 to Dorothy Mae Stephens Morris and Thomas Aaron Morris, Sr.. Her dad died in a construction accident when she was 5 years old and her brother was 7. Her mother later remarried Lee Scott of Scottsville. Elizabeth graduated from Marshall High School in 1946.
After high school Elizabeth started dating one of herbrother’s friends, Albert Agnor. Many of Tommy’s friends called her “Sister”, including Albert, but she put a stop to this nickname when they became serious. She was 20 when they married at the historic Scottsville Methodist Church on March 28, 1948, after Albert returned from WW II. Not owning a car, they got a friend to drive them to Dallas, where they honeymooned at the Adolphus Hotel, after which they rode the train to College Station, for Albert to return to classes at Texas A&M University. Years later, to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary, the kids surprised them with a weekend at the Adolphus in Dallas. In College Station, the newlyweds settled into the University Married Student Housing, and Elizabeth worked in the office at the Student Health Center on campus (also known as The Quack Shack), while Albert completed his degree.
After Albert’s graduation from Texas A&M, they returned to Marshall. In 1950, cousin Sydney Scott’s father Earl informed them that the old Scott farm on Hwy 80 E was for sale. They ended up buying the vacant house across the street from the home Elizabeth had grown up in. Over the years at Millstone Farm, Albert and Elizabeth were partners in various farming endeavors, including chickens, turkeys, pigs and cows. Then later, they were partners in the insurance business as well. When Albert passed away in 2013, they had celebrated 65 years of marriage. Through all the years, she supported Albert in his love of all things Texas A&M, and he supported her love of the Texas Rangers.
Elizabeth was active in her community; she was the primary member of the Marshall Welcome Wagon, through People’s State Bank; a member of the Pilot Club; Marshall PTA; Marshall Camp Fire Girls; Business and Professional Women Club; She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marshall for many years and worked on many committees in the Church and taught Sunday School. Elizabeth was the first woman elected to the Marshall ISD School Board, serving from 1963 to 1973.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved Albert (d.2013), her brother Tommy Morris and sister-in law Texie; and her younger brother Stephen Scott.
“Nana” is survived by her son Stuart Agnor, daughter Dottiedee Agnor, daughter-in-law Patti Furrh Agnor, four grandchildren: Cally Elizabeth Agnor Nicholson and husband Nathan of Marshall, Alex Anne Agnor of Dallas, Albert Stuart Agnor III of Longview, and Andee Brownrigg Agnor of Houston; and 2 great-grandchildren- Tate and Evie Nicholson of Marshall; also, her special niece Kathy and husband Charlie Blackmore, and their children, and her extended family members Kristin Slagel and Margie Hendry, and her special Tailgate Family, (they know who they are and how special they were to her for these many years).
A visitation celebrating Elizabeth Agnor will be held at Downs Funeral Home at 3:00 pm, and the Funeral Service will follow at 4 pm on Thursday, May 16, 2019. A graveside service for the Family will follow at the Agnor Family Cemetery.
