Obituary – The Ellis Review-Headlight July 30, 1920, p. 1

OBITUARY.

Lorna Myrle Ross was born at Essex, Iowa, February 3, 1877, and died at her home in Ellis, Kansas, July 25, 1920, at the age of 43 years, five months and 17 days. She was converted at the age of 12 years and united with the M.E. Church.

When about 20 years old she went to Omaha, Nebraska, where she studied music, both vocal and instrumental and was a member of the vested choir in the first M.E. Church.

She was married to Hollis A. Bailey September 4th, 1904, at Palco, Kansas. To this union four children were born: Elizabeth Louise, Frank Nelson, Rilla Corrinne, and Hollis Lorena, the latter preceding her to the great beyond. Hers was a cheerful nature and she was a patient sufferer for many years, and the frail body was weakened by an attack of pneumonia in February. About the 1st of July she accompanied her loved once to Colorado where it was hoped the climate would be beneficial but the all wise father had other plans for her and on the morning of July 4th, she was stricken with paralysis and although always done that medical skill and loving hands could do she answered the call of her Master to "Come up higher", where her beautiful voice will be restored and she can join the angels in singing and I don't know unending praise to her Redeemer. She bequeathed a talent for music to each of her children and thus her influence will still be felt by a world in which she enjoyed living.

Her interpretation of the joy of life and right was an inspiration to her neighbors and those who knew her best. The loved ones have rich memories of the real help her ideals of life, have brought into their lives.

She leaves to mourn her loss, husband, three children, mother four sisters, Mrs. J.M. Kellogg, Wellington, Kansas, Lulu B. Ross, Palco, Kansas, Mrs. C.G. DeeLee Osceola, Missouri, Mrs. W.F. Bomgardner, and brother F.M. Ross, of Palco, Kansas and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral was held in the Ellis M.E. Church Tuesday afternoon and internment made in mount hope cemetery. The floral offerings were profuse and very beautiful among them being a large floral piece from the main line and Central Branch boys of the U.P.R.R.
