Born in Little Onion, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Lonzo Franklin and Nancy Lavinna "Viney" (Joiner) Shatto. In high school she was a majorette and class president. She married Turner Cassell on Oct. 17, 1944, in McAlester. She and her husband moved to Clovis, Calif., where he owned and operated the Cassell Construction Company for more than 20 years. She and her husband were ranchers in California for 20 years. In 1978 they returned to Crowder to build a home and retire. She was of the Baptist faith and was active with the Crowder Senior Citizens and Crowder High School Alumni Association. She enjoyed traveling, painting, writing poetry and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Dean and Rhonda Lynn Cassell, of Krebs; two granddaughters, Shawna (Cassell) Straub, of Claremore, and Heather (Cassell) Burns, Los Angeles; a grandson, John Cassell, of Krebs. Also, four great-grandchildren, Michal Ann Rose, of Tulsa, Morgan Bynum, of Claremore, Christian Cassell, of Moore, and Conaughr Cassell, of Moore; a sister, Mildred (Hatfield) Watlington, San Pablo, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Roma Shatto and her children and grandchildren, Fresno, Calif.; a granddaughter-in-law, Dalea Cassell, of Moore, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Turner Cassell on April 2, 2005; a son, Thomas Turner II in 1989, and a brother, Leslie Shatto.
