Alta Mae Becker, age 83, of Columbus, Ohio, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Yorkland Park Care Center. She was born September 2nd, 1923, in Washington County, Ohio, the sixth of eight children born to Alva H. and Wilda A. Pugh. After graduation from Waterford High School, Class of 1942, Alta moved to Columbus, and met her future husband, George Becker, while they both worked for Curtiss-Wright, building airplanes during WWII. They were married June 2nd, 1945. Alta later worked at Western-Electric, and retired from AT&T/Western-Electric after 26 years. She was a member of their Pioneers Club. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Groveport. Alta enjoyed hosting holiday get-togethers for her husband, five children, and their families. Her special treats of homemade candy, Cherry Cheese Pie, and Sneaky Pete Punch were some of her favorite traditions. Alta loved her family, and did anything and everything for them. An avid bowler for many years, she also was a huge support to her husband's softball teams over many decades. She enjoyed fishing, camping, crocheting, and other handcrafts. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 61 years, George; children, Tom (Lois) Becker of Galloway, Pat (Ray) Wyant of Galloway, Paul (Kathy) Becker of Canal Winchester, Karen (Frank) Coriell of Westerville, and Jerry (Jeannie) Becker of Pickerington; 12 Grandchildren and seven Great-Grandchildren; sister, Ruth Hughes of Marietta; and brother, Herb Pugh of Pomeroy. Calling hours will be Sunday, January 21st, 2007 from 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m. at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo Street, Canal Winchester, Ohio, 43110. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, January 22nd, in the Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel at St. Joseph 's Cemetery, 6440 S. High Street, Lockbourne, Ohio, 43137.
