Nancy F. Gillespie
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mrs. Nancy F. Gillespie, 70, formerly of Richlands,
passed away Jan. 6, 2003, in a Charlotte Health Care Center following a
lengthy illness.
She was born in Tazewell County and was the daughter of the late Thomas
Milton and Goldie Dye Keene Sr.
She had made her home in the Richlands area most of her life and was the
former owner and operator of Helen's and Nancy's Gift Shop in Richlands. This
was the oldest continuous operating restaurant in Tazewell County. She was a
Richlands High School graduate and attended Southwest Virginia Community
College. She was a former member of the Richlands Order of the Eastern Star
Chapter 104 and the Richlands Rebekah Lodge 62. She was also very active in
the Ladies Auxiliary at the Clinch Valley Medical Center.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Bluff.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Rodney
D. Gillespie; and her stepmother, Beulah Marie Keene.
Survivors are: two daughters, Miss Gail J. Gillespie of Cedar Bluff and
Mrs. Judy Gillespie Blevins and husband, Anthony of Charlotte; one daughter-
in-law, Mrs. Teresa Conley Gillespie of Winder, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs.
Darlene Kennedy of New Oxford, Pa., Mrs. Shirley Keene of Delaware, Ohio, and
Mrs. Joanne Ingersoll of Fortescue, N.J.; four brothers, Mrs. Ursel Keene of
Princeton, W.Va., Mr. Bill O. Keene of North Carolina, Mr. Tom M. Keene Jr. of
Belfast, Va., and Mr. Jack Lee Keene of Richlands; two grandchildren, Nancy
Elizabeth Blevins and Emily Kathryn Blevins also survive. She is also survived
by several half brothers and half sisters; and several step-brothers and step-
sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the
Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Craig Barber
officiating. Interment will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in
Richlands. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call
after 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands.
