NEWTON FALLS — Alexander T. Moldovan, 74, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Washington Square nursing facility.

Alex was born June 27, 1944, in Warren, to Alex and Eugenia “Jennie” Podar Moldovan.

Alex proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge, he spent his career working for Copperweld Steel.

On Jan. 14, 1978, Alex was united in marriage to the former Nancy K. Layshock, who preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2011.

An avid sports fan, Alex loved the Ohio State Buckeyes as well as cheering for the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers. Casinos attracted the adventurous side of Alex, and when he was at the tables he was frequently heard saying “Let it Ride.” Alex was a proud veteran, a devoted husband and a loving father and papa; he will be missed.

Alex is survived by his daughter, Heather (Nicholas “Nick” J. III) Caesar; his son, Richard J. Nochta; his grandchildren, Oliver and Gus Nochta and Nicholas J. Caesar IV; and his sisters-in-law, Theresa Bartlett and Deborah Christ.

Visitation for Alex will be 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2019, at Lane Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, Cortland, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 5 p.m. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family starting at 6 p.m. Monday at Avalon at Squaw Creek.

Following cremation, burial with military honors will be held at Hillside Cemetery.
