Richard was born January 4, 1936 in Dennis, KS to Carl and Minnie (Reardon) Allen, growing up with 6 brothers and 2 sisters. He graduated from Parsons High School in 1954. In August 1953, he married Norma Jean Wilkinson, and they had 4 children: Cynthia, Deborah, Diana, and Jeffrey. They later divorced. In June 1969, he married Evelyn Sherrick, and they had 3 children: Chad, Karla, and Lori. Richard and Evelyn were married until her passing in 2010.
Richard lived many places around Kansas, working as a Pipe Fitter until he settled in Moline in 1987. He was a story teller, and would tell stories to anyone that would listen. He was also a little ornery, and would bet anyone he could stand on his head longer than they could, knowing that he could easily beat them.
He loved to garden, enlisting all of his kids to help him tend to the weeds and bugs, as his gardens were always very large. Richard was an avid reader, reading every Zane Grey book ever written. He raised horses in his younger years, and loved horse racing. His favorite was the Kentucky Derby.
Richard is survived by his children:
Jeffrey Allen and wife Maggie of Lafayette, CO
Chad Allen and wife Angela of Moline, KS
