He was born on February 28, 1905, in Haines Township, a son of the late John Summner and Carrie Rossman Burd. On April 6, 1934, he married Alaine Wolfe, who died on June 17, 1974.
Mr. Burd was a graduate of the Aaronsburg High School and alumnus of Susquehanna, Penn State and Akron universities. He was an elementary school teacher in Haines Township for 18 years and served Centre County for 40 years in the capacity of chief clerk and register of wills.
He was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Millheim, Loyal order of Moose of Bellefonte, Bellefonte Kiwanis and Elk clubs, Centre County Historical Society, Centre County Sons of the American Revolution and former director of the Nittany Motor Club.
Mr. Burd was survived by one son, Harry J. Burd of Centre Hall; one sister, Sarah Fiedler of Aaronsburg and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home, Millheim, with the Reverend James Rill officiating.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Millheim.
