Carl W. Mitchell, age 91, of Seligman, Missouri, passed away Monday, February 9, 2009, in Barry County Care Center, Cassville, Missouri.

He was born September 10, 1917, in Seligman, the son of James Walter and Bessie Prudence (Webb) Mitchell.

On May 31, 1942, he was united in marriage to Edith Fanschon Hess, who was his loving wife sixty-six years.
She preceded him in death December 25, 2008.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Hugh Mitchell; one sister, Ada Francis Mitchell and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Mitchell.

He is survived by two sons, Mickey L. Mitchell of Rowlett, Texas and Richard L. Mitchell and his wife, Linda of Washburn, Missouri; one daughter, Carla Sue Garner and her husband, Rodger of Seligman; two sisters, Anna Ruth Webb of Springfield, Missouri and Mary Sue Pitts of Joplin, Missouri; three grandsons, Todd Mitchell and his wife, Karen, Tony Mitchell and his wife, Leah and Hesston Comer and his wife, Cara; six great granddaughters and one great grandson, Lauren Taylor, Morgan Nicole, Carlee Mae, Lindee Jayne, Langston Jolee, Joshua Brian and Emily Jade.

Carl attended Peoples School then graduated from Seligman High School. He was a member of Seligman First Baptist Church for over seventy years. In 1942 he entered the United States Army and was awarded four bronze stars for serving in the Rome, Southern France, Northern Apennines and Rhineland Campaigns. Carl worked for the Frisco Railroad for thirty-three years and retired as District Foreman. For around fifty years he was the overseer of the Seligman Cemetery.
He was a member of the Washburn Masonic Lodge #367, the Seligman Lions Club and American Legion Post #118.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 12, 2009, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri. Reverend Bob Scott, Reverend Bob Neeley, Reverend Ron Shults and Reverend John Edwards will conduct the services. Burial with Military Honors will be in Seligman Cemetery, Seligman, Missouri.

Masonic Services will be held at 5:30 P.M. Wednesday with visitation to follow until 8:00 P.M. in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

Contributions may be made to Seligman Cemetery in memory of Carl.
