Rev. James Winston Adams Sr., 83, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 4, 2019 to join his father, Charles Geoffrey Adams; his mother, Molly Dale Bateman Adams; his wife Regina Adams; brothers, Jesse Adams, Bobby Ray Adams and Charles Geoffrey Adams Jr; and grandchildren, Amanda Denise Hill, Adam James Brummitte, David William Brummitte and Justin David Porter.
He was a member of the Apostolic Faith, a 1955 graduate of John I. Burton High School, a lifelong supporter of the Raiders, and an avid Alabama football fan. He was the owner and operator of J.W. Adams Contractors Incorporated.
He was a beloved father and family patriarch who organized the Adams-Bateman Annual Reunion in honor of his father, Charles Geoffrey Adams.
Surviving are a son, James Winston Adams Jr. and wife Stephanie of Norton; daughters, Alissa Brummitte of Norton and Gina Adams Porter and husband Randy of Coeburn; three grandchildren, Ryan Paul Porter, James “Tra” Winston Adams III and Jazlyn Whitney Adams; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Thomas Adams and wife Lori of Virginia Beach and Corbin Gilbert Adams and wife Barbara of Norton; sister, Jean Gilreath and husband Jim of Pearisburg, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. till 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Graveside committal services and burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton, VA
