Robert Leon Watson, of the Nesmith Community, entered into rest Tuesday at his home.

Leon was a graduate of Addison High School and a 30-year employee of Stockham Valve and Fittings, where he was a supervisor. He also proudly served in the United States Army for four years. Leon faithfully served for over 50 years as deacon, teacher and singer, the last 30 years being at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He, along with his two daughters, sang for many years in the gospel group known as "The Watson Family", recording nine gospel albums. He also helped start the Alabama Gospel Quartet Association.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 from 6-8 pm at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Nesmith Community, where service will be on Saturday at 11 am. He will lie in state from 10-11 am. Burial will follow in Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Leon is survived by his daughters, Shirley Watson Grauberger and Kathy Dian Watson; brother, Alton "Buddy" Watson and sister, Freda Sharp. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Pauline Carpenter Watson; parents, Dock Monroe Watson and Ella Lois Robinson Watson.
