Edward Vinton Kessler was a son of Mary Elizabeth (née Howard) and Lloyd Alexander Kessler, born in 1852 in Jefferson, Frederick County, Maryland. Edward V. Kessler, age 27 and single, was enumerated in 1880 in Jefferson, farming with his father. In 1900, he was living in the District of Columbia in the household of his younger brother Clarence.

E. Vinton Kessler and Mollie Hersperger were married on 23 December 1908 in Jefferson.

"Miss Mollie E. Hersperger, of Jefferson, this county, was married this afternoon at Jefferson to E. Vinton Kessler, of the firm of Kessler Brothers, automobile dealers, of Washington. Died in Washington on 10 Nov 1934 at age 83; parents, place of birth, wife, siblings; opened the first auto supply store in Washington in partnership with brother Clarence.
