Musician. A guitarist, he is remembered for his tenure with the groups "Classics IV" and "The Atlanta Rhythm Section." Born James Barney Cobb, Jr., he was raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He began his career as a member of the music ensemble "The Candymen" who were known for backing up Roy Orbison. They evolved into "Classics IV" and enjoyed commercial success with the hits "Spooky" (1968), "Stormy" (1968) which achieved gold record status and "Traces" (1969). After disbanding, Cobb co-founded "The Atlanta Rhythm Section" and had Top 10 singles with "So In To You" (1977) and "Imaginary Lover" (1978) as well as a Top 20 hit with a revised version of the "Classic IV" single "Spooky" (1979). He remained with the group until 1986 and later joined the Country supergroup "The Highwaymen." He died from a heart attack.
