Trucker dies in crash, Lee Courter, Loganton
LOGANTON-First of two weekend car-crash fatalities affecting Clinton County residents [Thomas E Swinehart 1952-1973] was that of C. Lee Courter, 56, of Loganton R.D.1, who died Saturday about 5 a.m. of fractures of the neck and skull when the tractor-trailer truck he was driving overturned on the Clarion Exit of Route I-80.
Earlier in the morning, Mr. Courter had left the White Deer Terminal of Associated Transport Co., by which he was employed. He was driving west, his destination being Detroit, Mich.
According to reports, the morning was a foggy one at the scene of the crash, and he apparently lost control of the vehicle while going down the exit ramp.
He had been driving truck 12 years, first for the Valley Oil and Gas Co. of Mill Hall, and Schrack’s of Loganton, and for the past three years for Associated Transport.
Mr. Courter was born in Lamar Nov. 1, 1916, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Courter.
He lived in Sugar Valley most of his life, working both as a farmer and truck driver. At one time he was employed by Piper Aircraft Corp. in Lock Haven.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Flemington.
Surviving are his wife, the former Martha Flick; a son, Daniel, of Lamar; three daughters, Miss Janet Courter, Mill Hall; Mrs. Bonnie Holdren, Loganton R.D.2; and Mrs. Donna Mark, Loganton R.D.1; five brothers, Clair and Mark, of Mill Hall R.D.2; Ray, Mill Hall R.D. 1; Jay, Wynett, Ill.; Fred, Mill Hall R.D. 1; and three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Kramer, Woolrich; Mrs. Betty Wolfe, Vero Beach, Fla; and Mrs. Florence Burnell, Mill Hall R.D. 1; also five grandchildren. COURTER-Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Ramm Funeral Home, Loganton for C. Lee Courter, 56, of Loganton R.D.1, who died in a tractor-trailer accident at the Clarion exit of Route I-80 at 6 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 1973. The Rev. Robert Pickering will officiate, assisted by John W. Siegmund. Intern. Burial, Rest Haven Memorial Park. Friends are being received at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Monday.
