Mildred Griffith , 96, joined her family in heaven with Jesus Christ the morning of January 15, 2016. Born in Unadilla, Georgia, she lived most of her adult life in Birmingham, Alabama, having in the last few years moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to be near her daughter-in-law, Patricia N Griffith of Tuscaloosa.
Mrs. Griffith was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Eva Blankinship her husband, John W. Griffith, Sr; her 2 sons, John W. Jr and Ronald J . Griffith. She is survived by her sister, Louise Bush of Jacksonville, Florida; 2 daughters-in-law, Patricia Griffith of Tuscaloosa and Carol Griffith of Birmingham; 5 grandchildren, John (Jay) W. Griffith, III (Terry) of Tuscaloosa; Michael R. Griffith (Aimee) of Florence, S. C.; Steven N. Griffith, Sr (Sarah) of Tuscaloosa.; 1 granddaughter, Joy Elizabeth Griffith of Birmingham. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Griffith was a member of First Baptist Church, Centerpoint and so enjoyed her Sunday School class for many years. Her last years were spent in Tuscaloosa at Morning Pointe Assisted Living where she enjoyed fun activities with her friends there.
A memorial service will be held at Ridout's Trussville Chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2016 with viewing prior to the service, the Reverend Joseph Gibbons, (husband of great-granddaughter Kristen E. Griffith) officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to West Alabama Hospice, 3851 Loop Rd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
