Allan married Donna Esposito in 1975 and had two sons. Matthew Elijah, & Richard Jeremiah.
After years of protecting and serving the citizens of New York, and being cited for meritorious service for stopping and identifying a stolen vehicle that was recently used in a robbery, Allan left the department to become a property manager where he served out his remaining years working for such high profile real estate management companies such as Douglas Elliman, Kreisel Corporation, and the Trump Organization, where he managed the newly developed and coveted property, ‘Trump Place' on the upper west side. Allan met a couple of times with Donald Trump directly, with Mr. Trump making note one of those times that, "Trump place is in good hands with Al Strand". Allan attended Staten Island University in NYC, and worked as an instructor teaching electrical engineering to students for the Local 32B - 32J Union School.
After retiring from Property Management, Allan decided to move to Virginia to spend more time with his two sons, Matthew & Richard. Matthew works as a Police Officer with the Fairfax County Police Department, while also managing an IT department for a political lobbying firm in our nation's capital. Richard works as an Intelligence Officer with the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington, DC. Both Matthew & Richard served in the US Navy following their father's footsteps receiving numerous citations and awards.
After being diagnosed with prostate cancer for only a few months, Allan died in his sleep in the early morning hours of Dec 27, 2006. He was buried with full military honors at Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, VA where the Fairfax Police Department's Chaplain presided over the service.
Allan lived life like it was going out of style… there wasn't a time where you could be in the same room with him and not hear a joke or his famous one liner, "It is what it is". He loved his ice pops, JujiFruits, and Twizzlers. He loved the US Navy, and was a very proud veteran. He loved the NYPD that much more.
Those that knew Allan knew that what you saw is what you got. He was a faithful born-again Christian and member of the Calvary Tabernacle, International Christian Center, and Times Square Church in NYC.
He is missed by all who knew him, and those that didn't, wish they had.
