Born at Wading River, Long Island, New York. Married Emma/Amy Coles in 1827 in Tarrytown New York. Married Carrie Wilde in Newark New Jersey. Started working as a clerk in a wholesale grocery business in New York City at the age of 16. Later on he farmed on Long Island only to return to the city to establish the Red Bird Stage line. He came to Omaha in April 1856 and established a livery business with facilities for caring for 100 horses. From 1860-1870 owned the only hearse in Omaha and had the only circus carry all. He served on the Omaha City Council for two terms from the second ward. Was a member of the A.F. & A. M.
