James Robert Blankenship, age 69, of Raven, VA passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 in Bristol, TN. He was born December 21, 1949 in Tazewell County, VA. He was the son of the late Charlie and Louise Cordle Blankenship. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. Local 1374.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Jean Blankenship; two brothers, Fred Blankenship and Noah David Blankenship.

James is survived by two daughters, Melissa Osborne and husband Terry of Swords Creek, VA, Lucinda Blankenship of the home; two sisters, Barbara Royal and husband Eddie of Wardell, VA, Mary Faye Royal of Cedar Bluff, VA; three brothers, Roger Blankenship and wife Kathy of Wardell, VA, Roy Blankenship and wife Bernice of Doran, VA, Ronald Blankenship and wife Judy of Raven, VA; Grand God Sons, Seth Burke and Austin Burke; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Bible Way Church in Jesus Name in Raven, VA with Pastor Dannie D. Short and Rev. Austin Burke officiating. A Committal Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, VA. Pallbearers will be Junior Burke, Seth Burke, Gene Boyd, Christopher Dye, Noah David Blankenship, Jr., Bobby Mullins, James Arnold Lester, and Roger Douglas Blankenship. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Bostic, Junior Short, Pastor Dannie D. Short, and Members of Bible Way Church in Jesus Name. Flower Girls will be Freda Burke, Amanda Dye, Lindsey Burke, and Angel Boyd. Those wishing to attend the Committal Service please meet at the cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the Bible Way Church in Jesus Name.
