KATIE LOU KRAUSE JANIK, age 81 of Alvin, Texas passed peacefully into eternal rest Monday, April 29, 2019 at Poet’s Walk Memory Care Community in Round Rock, Texas.

Katie was born on March 10, 1938 in Bellville, Texas and lived there until she graduated from high school in 1957. She attended Blinn College and Sam Houston State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. While attending college in Huntsville, she met her future husband, James. After graduation, she taught school in both High Island and Van Vleck school districts. She and James were wed in Sealy, Texas in 1963 and settled in Alvin shortly thereafter. She taught at Alvin Junior High School before she and James started their family in 1968.

As a home economics major, Katie took pride in creating and maintaining a warm and comfortable Alvin home where she and James raised their family and resided for the next fifty years. Katie was actively involved in her community and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where she served in the Altar Guild. She was a long-time member of the Alvin Branch of the American Association of University Women, where she spent countless hours volunteering her time. She was an active supporter of the Alvin Museum Society and its Annual Alvin Area Garden Tour. Growing up on her family’s farm, she developed a love of plants and flowers that lasted throughout her life. Her beautiful gardens were admired by friends and neighbors. She was always willing to share not only her knowledge, but also plants from her own garden in order to help others in their gardening endeavors. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by all those who were blessed to have known her.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James; father, Leslie Krause; mother, Bernice Koehn Krause Iselt; and step-father, Romeo Iselt. She is survived by her two sons James Janik (Amy) and Thomas Janik; brother Wilfred Krause; grandchildren Kinley, Christopher, Logan and Dawson Janik; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
