The funeral of Michael W. Murphy of 32 Baltimore street, retired Lynn Businessman who died Thursday, was held today from his home ,followed by a solemn requiem mass in St. Joseph's Church. The Rev. William J. Donian was celebrant, with the Rev. Arthur V. Lyons as deacon, and the Rev. Joseph F. Maguire, sub-deacon.

Among the many floral tributes were those from the faculties of the Batchelder, Harrington, Lynn Woods, Highlands, Euclid Avenue, Washington Community, Chatham Street, Classical High, Brickett, Hood and Tracy schools; Friends of the School Administration Building, Connery School Teachers and Associates; Students of Classical High School; Friends of Ingalls School; Teachers of Grades 1, 2, 3 of the Lewis , Burrill and Lincoln schools; Teachers and Principals of the Aborn School; Lynn Teachers Association; O'Keefe Teachers Association; Corbett School Elementary Teachers; Red Cross Motor Corps; Tony the Florists; Tenants of Johnson Street and Henry Avenue; Usherettes of Squad Leaders Club; and an enrollment in Our Lady's Memorial Society of the Immaculate Conception Church of Boston.

Michael W. Murphy, formerly associated with the A.M. Creighton Shoe company, and more recently in the real estate business, died at his home after a long illness.

Born in Ireland, he resided in Lynn more than 65 years. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, a past president of the Boot and Shoe Workers Union, a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and member of the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph's parish.

He leaves a son, John F. Murphy of Lynn, and four daughters, Miss Catherine Murphy, supervisor of elementary grades in the public schools, Miss Theresa L. Murphy, teacher of Classical High School, Mrs. Mary Quirk of Watertown and Mrs. Sabrina M. Fuller of New York and eight grandchildren.
