Jerlene Cook, 70, of Gilbert, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, from St. Mary's Medical Center at Huntington. Jerlene was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eagle Sanctuary at Man.

Born at Paynesville on October 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Alderson "Poodle" Muncy (1914-1986) and Chloe Bell Collins-Muncy (1916-1990). In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Mae Muncy-Christian (1940-1996) and Maxine Muncy-Reed (1941-1994); one grandson, Clifton Bailey (Deceased); and her first husband, Lawson Roberts (1934-1979) whom she married on August 11, 1956 in Iaeger, McDowell County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, McDowell County, WV, 1956, Page 87, Application Date: August 8, 1956).

Those left to love and cherish the memory of Jerlene are her two sons, Timothy Roberts & wife Tammy Roberts of Hanover and Phillip Roberts & wife Barbara Roberts of Cub Creek Road; her five daughters, Patsy Roberts-Shaffer & husband Rick Shaffer of Mt. Lookout, Karen Roberts-Holland & husband Ronald Holland of Newport News VA, Vickie Roberts-Trent & husband Anthony Trent of Thomasville NC, Gladys Roberts-Stacy & husband Randall Stacy of Hanover, and Linda Roberts-Sloan & husband Gary Sloan of Gilbert; her seven brothers, Buddy Muncy & wife Kathy Muncy of Cicero IL, Ray Muncy & wife Marilyn Muncy of Chicago IL, Ralph Muncy & wife Peggy Muncy of Olive Branch MS, Douglas Muncy & wife Martha Muncy of Roderfield, David E. Muncy of Bradshaw, Michael Muncy of Jolo, and Larry Muncy of Gilbert; her five sisters, Mabel Muncy-Hethcoat & husband George Hethcoat of Streamwood IL, Carolyn Muncy-Swafford of Cookeville TN, Velda Muncy-Pruner & husband Rex Pruner of Mooresville NC, Georgia Muncy-West & husband Martin West of Roderfield, and Peggy Muncy of Chattanooga TN; her twelve grandchildren; her twelve great grandchildren; her seven step grandchildren; her sixteen step great grandchildren; her former husband, Sonny Lee Cook (1950-2013); and a host of other dear family and friends.

Friends called at the Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer at Hampden on Thursday, January 29, 2009 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 30, 2009 at the church with the Rev. Carl "Cab" Wolford and the Rev. Anthony Hudgins officiating. Burial followed in the Christian Kennedy Cemetery at Rock Ridge near Paynesville.
