Lenard A. Pedersen, 90, of Kearney passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at CHI Health-Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Lenard Arthur Pedersen was born on June 22, 1928 in Omaha to Olaf and Clara (Tietz) Pedersen. Lenard received his education from Gibbon High School graduating with the class of 1946. In 1950, Lenard enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War, until being honorably discharged in 1952. After being honorably discharged, Lenard returned home where he tended to the family farm.

On March 1, 1953 Lenard was united in marriage to Phyllis Ilene Olson and to this union three children were born: Penny, Lenard, Jr. and Dean.

Lenard was a longtime member of Kearney First United Methodist Church. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball in Gibbon. Most recently, Lenard enjoyed participating in horseshoe tournaments, bowling and playing cards.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Phyllis Pedersen of Kearney; daughter, Penny John and her husband, Randy of Miller; sons, Lenard Pedersen, Jr. and his wife, Connie of Kearney and Dean Pedersen and his wife, Katie of Radcliff, KY; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald Pedersen and his wife, Gerry of Holdrege; sisters-in-law, Dee Pedersen of Grand Island and LaVonne Pedersen of Newman, GA; along with many other relatives and friends.

Lenard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gloria Bartak; brothers, Dayton Pedersen, Orville Pedersen and John Pedersen; sister-in-law, Marie Pedersen; and brother-in-law, Clyde Bartak.
