BURTT M. SMITH

(1914 • 1996)


Burtt M. Smith, age 82, of 2934 South 10th St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly on Friday, November 8, 1996, at his residence.


Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 1996 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Carl Meuelemans O.F.M. with entombment to follow at the Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc.


Burtt was born on June 16, 1914, in Manitowoc, Wis., son of the late Lake M. and Laura Nemachek Smith. He married Grace Schemchak on April 19, 1941, at St. May's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 1996. Burtt was employed at the Mirro Company, Manitowoc for 50 years, retiring in August of 1983 as the assistant plant manager. He was a member of the Mirro Management Club and the Elks Club of Manitowoc.


Survivor include his wife, Grace Smith; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Michele Smith, Manitowoc; two sisters, Helen Morz, and Marjorie Petersen, both of Manitowoc; two granddaughters, Cassandra and Nicole; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Peltier and a brother Andrew Smith.


Friends may call on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the church.


There will be no Monday evening visitation.


Burtt enjoyed his walks along the lakeshore with his friends, Harold Anderson and Jay Woodcock. He also enjoyed golfing with his friend, Lester Deubler. Burtt was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
