Grace was born on September 8, 1921 in Santuck, SC to the late John Harry and Ida Dawkins Bentley. She was a retired cook and cafeteria staff member at Union County Schools in Union, SC and was also employed by Whitten Center in Clinton, SC. A long-time member of Cane Creek Presbyterian Church, she had a passion for family and food and was known as "Nanny" to many.
In addition to her mother and father, Grace was preceded in death by her first husband, George Lawrence Crocker; her second husband, William Jesse Trent Jr.; three brothers, Paul Marshall Bentley, John Monroe Bentley, and James Russell Bentley; and three sisters, Jessie Marie Free, Lula Pearl Greene and May Lillie Bentley.
She is survived by her two sons, Thomas Larry Crocker and his wife Connie of Carlisle, and Lawrence Wayne Crocker of the home; two grandchildren, John Calvin Crocker and his wife, Amber of Greensboro, NC, and Christa Ann Crocker of Carlisle; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson Dylan Crocker and Bentley Logan Crocker both of Greensboro. Grace will also be fondly remembered by her honorary grandchildren, Lacey Lee Thompson of Lexington, SC, Tabitha Nicole Britten of Union, and Tykaylee Danielle Altman and Alyssa Nicole Johnson both of Carlisle, along with a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Cane Creek Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Steve Lemons and Rev. Dr. James Bradley.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 Thursday at the church prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cane Creek Presbyterian Church, 120 Cane Creek Church Rd., Union, SC 29379.
The family is at her home, 1218 Santuc Dr. Carlisle, SC 29031.
