Gaines Bliss “GB” (Bliss) Albright was born on July 9, 1921, in Speers Ferry, Scott County, Virginia to Ida Minerva Anderson and Joe Albright. He was a brother to Elizabeth, Garvie, Nelson, Woodrow, Myrtle and Lydia.
Bliss as he was known to family, enlisted into the Army on June 7, 1945, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He was released on January 14, 1946
On the 19th day of May 1949, he married Mary Elizabeth Woods in Gate City, Virginia. She was the daughter of Ada Mae Guinn and Pleas Woods. Into their union was born fourteen children. Gaines Clinton, Nina Ruth, Phyllis Ann, Dorothy Christine, Donna Mae, Curtis Lee, Joey Edward, Rick, Andrew Carroll, Carolyn Ann, Troy Stephen, twin daughters, Teresa and Lisa, and Sharine.
Bliss lived in several different places during his lifetime, beginning in Scott County, Virginia, Hawkins County, Tennessee, Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland and Piedmont, South Carolina to name a few.
On January 20, 1981, Bliss passed away in South Carolina where he had lived for several years. He was laid to rest in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Scott County, Virginia. Other family members buried there are his father Joe, brother Nelson and nephew Eldridge (both killed in an automobile accident together) and sister Myrtle and her family. His mother Minerva is buried in the John Winegar Cemetery, in the Caney Valley area of Hawkins County, Tennessee.
