Mary Russell Aitken was daugher of William Aitken and Ann Chapman Aitken, immigrants from Scotland. When she was nine years old, she was orphaned and then adopted by John G. And Mary Bastedo. She married Herbert Lewis Hawkey, 1869-1918, who is interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Together they had two daughters, Ariel Ethel Hawkey Everist (1893-1976) and Marjorie May Hawkey Bryan (1896-1984).
