Bill served honorably in the US Marines, in the Banking field after retiring from military service. He was married to Carol Teuila Tufaga. They have one son who survives them both, Stanford "Stan" Shahan, three grandsons, Alex, SHAWN and Tanner Shahan and daughter-law, Tammy. Uncle Bill loved life and laughter. He will be missed.

Captain Billy Joe Shahan, USMC, age 82, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully at home on April 25th, 2019. He was born on February 16, 1937, in Springfield, Missouri, to Alex Clay and Bertha May Compton Shahan.

Billy was a true patriot that loved his country. He joined the Marine Corps at 18 years old and served his country for 21 years, which included two tours in Vietnam. He married Teuila Lona Tufaga while stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in December 1958 and they had one son, Stanford Aulelio. He believed his military experience defined who he was, and he continued to be a proud member of the Marine Corps Mustang Association until his death.

He earned his Bachelors and Master degrees in business and began a second career in banking for over 30 years. After retiring from banking, he volunteered with the Oceanside Police Department and as an Election Poll Worker for many years.

Billy served the community on various committes such as Military Affairs for the City of Carlsbad and Chamber of Commerce. He sat on the Board of Directors for the Encinitas Boys and Girls Club and for the Joslyn Senior Services in Rancho Bernardo.

Billy was generous to many and fun to be around. He loved his associations with family and friends, enjoying camping at San Onofre Beach, golfing, bowling, fishing and traveling. He appreciated a good joke and loved to laugh.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Teuila (Carol) Shahan. He will be greatly missed by his son, Stanford (Tami) and grandchildren, Alex, Shawn (Jaclyn), and Tanner.

A Viewing will be held Friday May 10, 2019 from 6pm - 7pm and Saturday May 11, 2019 from 8:45am - 9:45am.

Funeral Services will be held at Eternal Hills , 1999 El Camino Real Oceanside, Ca, on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10am.
